What I'd Like to Be Wearing: Keep It Clean

Keep It Clean

Oxblood leather skirt - Alexander McQueen, Sweater - Acne, Platforms - Jeffrey Campbell, Lipstick - D&G, Nail polish - Essie "Navigate her", Lips clutch - Lulu Guinness

This, to me, is a relatively "clean" ensemble. I could have gone overboard with the jewelry and added some socks, but I didn't. I love shades of any color together,

Music Monday: Blue Jeans

I'm a little late, but I'm actually really feeling this song by Lana Del Rey. I also love her seedy 60s glamour stage persona. It's the first stage persona I've seen in years that I've actually found appealing. She makes me want to go out and buy a pair of ghetto hoops and figure out how to do that makeup...even though those lips are ridiculously fake.

Style Crush: Eleonora Carisi

Meet my newest style crush, Eleonora Carisi. I don't know how I missed her before, but I discovered her from a slideshow on Refinery29 and I quickly googled her to find out more. It turns out she has a blog you can see here. I'm floored by her ability not just to mix high and low, but also her ability to make low and low look so anything but - case in point, that first out looks so Louis Vuitton meets Prada Spring/Summer 2012, but it's actually H&M and Atmosphere (Primark! Can you believe it?). It helps that she is gorgeous and has amazing hair. I also find myself deeply admiring her tattoos - she because she doesn't allow them to limit her style.

What I'd Like to Be Wearing: Wannabe OscarPRGirl

I Wannabe @OscarPRGirl

Mary Janes - Marni, Crop top - TopShop, Skirt - Roksanda Ilincic, Bag - the Row, Houndstooth socks - Gap, Pearl Ball Choker Necklace - J. Crew

It's no secret that I'm a little obsessed with @OscarPRGirl. As a fashion/apparel social media professional, I admire what she's done for Oscar De La Renta and aspire to be more like her in that sense, but I also admire how she has managed to make herself an icon in both fashion and social media. Her style is extremely well-defined - she loves long layers, sleeved crop tops, and longish to long skirts. So I'd say this outfit is inspired by her and Alexa Chung (see the mary janes?), as well as my current leaning towards the color fuchsia.

Last week was a good week for social media, because OscarPRGirl told me my blog post was, and I quote, "Pretty amazing." I can die now, thanks.

068: Palazzo Pants Again, Yay

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Pants - Target (sold out but this is cute!), Tank - drifter (men's), Belt - Forever 21 (similar here)  White Blazer - Zara (similar here), Jewelry - vintage, Shoes - Target (similar here), Embossed Tote - Ted Baker (similar here), Sunglasses - Chloe 2145 (similar here and here)

Blarg, when I washed these palazzo pants they shrunk a bit - weird because I air dry everything I own. And to add insult to injury, today I stepped on them with these heels and tore a hole in the bottom :'(.

By the way, if you liked my Club Monaco style breakdown, you might also like the Alexa Chung style breakdown I did for Chictopia.

What I'd Like to Be Wearing: Halloween-Ready

halloween ready
Sweatshirt - Zoe Karssen, Socks - Falke, Platform sandals - Jeffrey Campbell Alameda, Necklace - Tom Binns design, Bag - Alexander Wang, Leather confetti skirt - Rickety Rack

To be completely honest, I didn't even realize how Halloween-y this outfit was until I was done with it. I just really like insect jewelry, bats, and chunky sandals.

066: Spy Games

Photobucket Photobucket
Cage top - Cameo, Black high waist jeans - BDG, belt - vintage, Oversized cardigan/sweater thing - the Limited (over 10 years old! But similar here), Sunglasses - Chloe 2145 (similar here or here)- Shoes - Target (similar here), Embossed tote - Ted Baker (similar here)

It might be really warm today, but when I wore this outfit I really thought fall was here. I figured it was time to start layering up and wearing a lot of black and well...nope. Crazy Norther California weather for ya.

Anyway, wearing this much black makes me feel like a spy. But not a real spy. Like a spy from the movies. What kind of spy would wear heels?

I was wearing the cage top I wore on day 3 of NYFW that I just fuckingggggg love. As you can imagine, it's a little hard to wear considering it's made of nude ribbon and hardly counts as a top, but to take it from cray NYFW style to day wear, I decided to use it as a layering piece, over a turtleneck and under the sweater. I'd say it works.

Me On Street Peeper

Oh hello, ME on during New York Fashion Week!

Music Monday: Tuff Luff

It starts off a little weird, but when I re-found my Unicorns CD from 2004, I was able to get past that part and really enjoy the melodic, jolly violins and flutes. I thought you would too!

065: My Favorite Dress

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Dress - Vintage, Shoes - Target, Sunglasses - Chloe 2145 (sold out but similar here or here)

This vintage dress was a find I picked up at an outdoor vintage sale in Silverlake when I was visiting some friends last year. I bought it for $12 without even trying it on, and when I finally did, I was so pleased to realize it fit me perfectly. No one seems to love it as much as I do though - I think the cut fits my body perfectly, but maybe its the kind of dress only a mother can love.

How to Get the Look: Club Monaco

On Sunday I went to SF's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival with a friend of mine, and on our way back home we made a stop to shop a little bit. Sam and I had been gushing over the styling of the mannequins at Club Monaco, so when we got to the shopping area south of Golden Gate Park, she asked me to help her pick out some clothing so she could get the look without actually going over to Club and stripping the mannequins. I have a pretty sound understanding of  Club Monaco's styling methods, but it was hard to say without visualizing it. Sami ended up leaving with a gray sweater that hung on her body simply perfectly and a tailored skirt, but she probably needed more than that to get the look.

A brand that has recently revamped itself just like J. Crew (Gap, take note!), I feel like when I was in college about five years ago, Club Monaco style was very work-oriented - most pieces were very well-tailored and the entire store's color palette was very cool - largely gray and black. It was sophisticated but a little stiff.

The current Club Monaco style is decidedly more casual, but is still sophisticated. And this may just be my personal opinion (it is!) but it's 9 million times better.

The color palette is warmer. It still involves gray and black, but a lot of it seems to be shades of browns or  whites - nude, cream, off-white, beige, khaki, tan, etc. At least for the fall season, the only colors that are usually thrown in are rich traditionals such as burgundy (oxblood is the new term, apparently), navy, and a forest or military green. Sometimes they throw in patterns, but its never anything too complicated. Their patterns are largely traditional, such as plaid, polka dots, etc., and they are always subtle color schemes.

The pieces themselves alternate between being sleek and airy. For example, tops are often oversized and always feature soft fabric that falls well. Skirts, shorts, and pants are usually much more tailored, featuring clean lines, structures fabrics, pleats, and darting. A big trend right now is the skater skirt style, and next to the more fitted pencil skirt style, these two are popular at Club. Outerwear is more of a wild card - pieces can be slouchy or more tailored. Shoes seems to be one of two styles - either extremely strappy sandals that come in black or nude (and to my knowledge, are only sold at the flagship store), or desert boots. And regardless, 90 percent of the time, mannequins seem to be wearing gray socks - either thigh high or knee high, scrunched or unscrunched.

To exemplify the Club Monaco style, I made a few polyvore sets. Some pieces are Club Monaco, most aren't. Some are cheaper than Club Monaco, most aren't. Really, I'm just trying to give ideas. I didn't list any brands here, but I guess if anyone has a big problem with that, I can go back and do it.

064: School Girl

Photobucket Photobucket
Asos perspex floral shell top, Peter Pan Collar top - Moda International, Skirt - Vintage, Heels - Calvin Klein (such fake Chloes from like six years ago), Sunnies - Ray-Ban

On the heels of my last post, I think I was so overwhelmed by my dudliness there that I pulled together this ensemble. In all honesty, this flared floral printed skirt is one of my favorite vintage finds ever and every outfit involving it is a favorite. It's the style more than the print to be honest - the cut is just so feminine and flirty! I only have one other skirt in this style, but I am digging this plaid one and this plain one.

Also, how Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012 is this top? And it's only $23 on Asos right now!

Music Monday: Youth

My roommate introduced me to this beautiful, touching song by Daughter, also known as Elena Tonra. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Some people think its a sad song...but I consider myself a lucky one :)

Photobucket Photobucket
Dip Dye shirt - Men's vintage DIYed, Blazer - the Limited (similar here), Black high waist jeans - BDG, Cap-toe flats - Chanel, Tote - Ted Baker (similar here), Sunglasses - Chloe 2145 (similarish here)

I don't know how to dress for work like a normal human being. Well, when pressed, I can as I did once work in a medical device company's office. Thank God that's over!

What I'd Like to Be Wearing: Hipsta Please Crop Top

hipsta please
Tank - Etsy, Watch - River Island, Blazer - J. Mendel, Burgundy combat boots - Marc by Marc Jacobs, Vendetta Mini Flat Side Bag - 3.1 Phillip Lim, Sunglasses - Ray-Ban, Gorjana Ashby Mini Necklace, Quilted leather short - Thakoon Addition

Would you call this business casual because a blazer is involved?
Don't answer that.

I guess I'm feeling urban today. That and a bit like Elena Perminova here.

In other news, I am working on a shoot (remember! I'm a photographer first!) with my stylist and the two muses for the shoot are a well known blogger and a well known model. It'll take some time before the shoot is done, photos edited, and I can post them, but in due time I'll let you guys know who those two are. I'm ridiculously's going to be awesome.

Music Monday: About a Girl/Wrath of God

So Best Coast apparently covered Nirvana's "About a Girl" at some bar somewhere in Europe, right around the birthday of "Nevermind" (21, baby!). So that's your Music Monday this week. In case you can't tell, I'm not exactly moved. I mean I like it. But I love Nirvana so much it's hard to keep my brain from say the fuck is this. Not that I'm saying that.

If that wasn't enough for you, check out this new Crystal Castles track. I am SO glad I have a ticket to see them with Jayinee on the 22nd! Eeeep!!!
