Music Monday: Creep

I woke up one morning my roommate was listening to this song, "Creep" by TLC, and it brought me back to the glorious days of early 90s R&B. It's crazy how things have changed since then in music and fashion! In retrospect, the trends for women at the time were so gender-bendy, and no one was trying to be sexy at all, which is very much the opposite of today. At the same time, no one question these women's sexuality or intention - women dressed just like men, save for the crop tops, and that was the end of the discussion. I wonder if this was hip hop's own wardrobe revolution, right next to rock's. I mean peep the plaid shirt around T-Boz's waist...hello, big up to grunge!

Anyway, just an interesting note. I have no explanation for the silky pajamas in this video, or the horrid lipliner that was so in then. Also, RIP Left Eye. Miss you guys.

2012 Outfit Recap

It feels like yesterday I was just thinking about starting this blog in late 2011. It's so hard to believe about a year has gone by! I thought it would be apt to recap the year with a few of my favorite outfits, especially considering I am feeling a little uninspired with my closet right now...ugh I just want to replenish the whole thing! Anyway, happy new year! I am in Egypt right now, gearing up to head to a tropical island tomorrow called Socotra. Stay safe and have fun tonight ;)

What I'd Like to Be Wearing: Cat Face

Cat Face

Boots - Bebe, Cat face sweater - Romwe, Sunglasses - Karen Walker, Skirt - Erdem, Perfume - Lolita Lempicka

I hesitated for a second when I placed that cat sweater with that skirt and those houndstooth shoes...because I was like, "What would people think of me?" Then I laughed and put it in my set because I really would wear this, though I'd prefer the shoes without studs.

Anyway, did you like last week's Beirut track? Here's another one!

Music Monday: Postcards from Italy

Fact: a boy who once meant a lot to me introduced me to Beirut, now one of my favorite bands. He told me about them, and when I added him on MySpace (Ha! MySpace! Seriously guys this was five years ago) this song played on his profile. We don't speak anymore, but I think this track is just an enjoyable now as it was then.

Currently Coveting: Alexander Wang Cut-Out Boots

Image via here

These tall Alexander Wang cut-out boots may be from his spring/summer 2013 collection...but I want to wear them NOW, NOW, NOW. Let's be real - heck they'll never get on my feet. Not now, not in the spring, not next year, not the year after that. But as I always say...a girl can dream, right? I am seeing them with a midi printed DVF wrap dress for a 20s-meets-30s feel, because that's exactly the kind of girl I am right now. Perhaps a something similar exists in the world of vintage? I see you, eBay.

075: Christmas-y

Photobucket Photobucket
Jacket - Jack by BB Dakota, Pencil skirt - vintage (similar here), Polka dot chiffon top - MinkPink, Belt - Forever 21, Boots - Chinese Laundry via Marshall, Sunglasses - Chloe 2145 via TJ Maxx (similar here and here), Embossed tote - Ted Baker (similar here

The weather here in NorCal finally got ugly so I had to take some photos inside. How do the rest of you guys do it? Moments like these make me question why I am even doing this.

In any case, I used to be deathly afraid of combining green and red looked too "Christmas-y." Then I had a moment last week like...well why not? So I did it! And I liked it :)

Music Monday: Thirteen Thirtyfive

Though the message of this song is unclear (or maybe it is clear and just isn't what we want it to mean?) it still sounds really beautiful.

Currently Coveting: Glamourous Gowns

Tadashi Shoji

Adrianna Papell

Tadashi Shoji

"Currently Coveting" is a misleading title for this blog post. It should be called "Currently Needing," as I am currently searching for a dress to my EBFF's (Egypt BFF) wedding. Egyptian weddings are dressier than American weddings, and everyone wears gowns. When I was younger, any old sparkly number from the juniors section of Macy's would work, but now that I'm a little bit old I try and attend these events with a bit more sophistication and a touch of old school Hollywood glamour. I don't think I am going to buy any of these dresses for the event to be honest - the first would be too hard to dance in (and it's sold out), the second is a little too bare though it is absolutely stunning, and the third is a little...well, older than I think I want to look. But anyway, just some ideas!

On a totally unrelated note, I'd feel really great in a Tadashi Shoji gown. I love his designs and seeing his show during New York Fashion Week was honestly such a treat. It might sound lame, but I just feel like it would be really neat to wear a dress from a designer whose show I got to witness, even if it isn't the same season.
