036 Un-Island Style

Shirt - ASOS, Jacket - Citizens of Humanity Vagabond Jacket, Backpack - Ecote, White Jeans - BDG, Shoes - Ked's, Sunnies - Ray-Ban, Necklaces - Vintage and Gorjana c/o, bracelet - Target

Let me tell's hard to get back into dressing all prim and polished after coming back from a laid back island like Kauai...ESPECIALLY if you've sprained your ankle (see the bandage). As I try to work back into things I have to stay within the realm of denim and flats (the later due to that ankle). I just scored this Citizens of Humanity patchwork jacket. It's currently retailing for $300 but I got it from Crossroads for just $55! Couldn't be happier with it.

A little 60s-inspired shoot I shot and styled with Caitlin was finally published on The Pet Fan Club, which is the blog for Material Girl Magazine. Happy to be in good company.

My Heart's in Hawaii

"And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair" - Khalil Gibran

If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, I think you can tell that my short 4 day trip to Kauai, Hawaii was of epic proportions (more on my Instagram). My only regret is that I didn't stay longer. From the second I arrived, I was overwhelmed by the natural beauty of the island, found in the landscapes to the people, the cemeteries to the food (odd, I know). We made a few friends including Micah (pictured above) as well as the dudes on our boat tour (who I unfortunately did not take contact information from). Maybe you can tell, but I feel like I left a little bit of my heart. It's been so long since I have ran so freely, danced in ocean water, smiled for prolonged periods of time, and felt my face get whipped by fresh, fresh wind. I almost forgot what it feels know. To be alive.

Music Monday: Sunday Under Glass

My iPod died about a year ago and I never replaced it. A friend of mine gave me an iPod shuffle and that's what I've been using since then to keep myself entertained on airplanes and in the car. Still, there's something dissatisfying about it, especially since I am the kind of person that generally wants to listen to something really specific at a given time. Since I own so much Nirvana (and they are my favorite band), it's hard for it not to land on something I like, but for the first time in a long time I went through my iTunes on my computer and remembered all the good music I am missing. I need a new iPod.

Currently Coveting: Alexander Wang Dakota Lace-Up

My latest want is a pair of Alexander Wang cut out booties called "Dakota." The terracotta color lends itself to many (California) seasons, as does the beautiful back cut-out. Currently on sale for $325 in my size at Tenoversix, this shoe might just become my latest (and biggest ever) splurge.

How to Wear Mint Jeans: A Summary

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

 Mint Jeans - BDG. (details on each outfit 1, 2, 3, 4)

I'm hanging out in Hawaii this week in honor of my birthday (yay!), so no new outfit post for now.

When it comes to mint jeans, I know I've fallen and I've fallen hard. Everyone seems to want to get on the mint brick road - "mint jeans" is one of the top searches that brings people to my blog. So, to make it easy for everyone, I decided to make a roundup of some of my mint jean outfits insofar.

First of all, my mint jeans are BDG  and I got them from Urban Outfitters. You can find them here. I was so pressed to find mint jeans at the time and no one carried them besides Urban. To my knowledge, I still haven't seen places like F21 or H&M carry them. The Urban Outfitters pair were the cheapest, best quality ones I could find. There was no way I was dropping $100+ on them via Current Elliot or so.

When it comes to colored denim, I was never a fan of the bold colors and only met muted earthy colors half way. But pastels...pastels I can dig. I love the fact that they're so different from the average blue jeans, but at the same time aren't abrasive at all. While I like other other pastel jeans, something about mint in particular is just so refreshing. The only other color I might pick up if I can find it is pastel pink. High waist and slightly cropped would be ideal...I don't even know how to wear low rise any more.

After a bit of wardrobe experimentation (meaning I bought a pair and just ran rampant through my closet), I think I have the recipe for wearing minty jeans to a tea:
  1. Girly. The pastel color of the jeans easily lends itself to be worn with tops with sweet details, heels, bows, etc.
  2. With other pastels. No colorblocking for you? Pastelblocking is the new blocking. Just break it up with one strong color, like a bold green belt. This will keep you looking minty fresh instead of easter egg.
  3. Monochrome. One of the top looks from this past runway season, a head-to-toe mint monochrome is very fashion-forward, but also calming and demur.
  4. With neutrals. The easiest way to wear pastel anything is to pair it with neutral pieces, like a cream top or white blazer.
  5. Grunge. Every though the color gives itself naturally towards being worn in an ultra-feminine manner, there's nothing that says you can't mix it up! Take your pastels into the arena of rock n' roll...because, what's more rocker than bit of unexpected juxtaposition?
  6. With neon. Speaking of juxtaposition, how rad is the neon-green-pastel-green combo? If you don't feel like throwing as many curve balls in one outfit  as I did above, try some mint jeans, camel heels with neon details, and a neutral top. It'll be fresh, fun, and uber-chic all at the same time.

Fluffy Luff

I told you guys a couple weeks ago I got a doggy and promised photos, and well, here she is! I promised I wouldn't become a crazy dog person once I got her, but judging from my Instagram (follow me @sarahjehan or here!), I am not doing so great. I've had my ups and downs with her, but overall she's made me a ton happier and really brought me and (most) of my housemates together. Me and my roommate Sarah really enjoy taking silly photos of her and sending them to each other with dogspeak captions (see above). Her name is Peanut but she has a number of nicknames. I love my booboo!
