026 My Work Ethic

Pants - Vintage, Shirt - Mossimo, Blazer - Apostrophe (similar here), Necklace - A.B.S. Allen Schwartz, Bag - Ted Baker, Sunnies - Chloe (similar here), Shoes - Franco Sarto (similar here)

To me, this is a very work-appropriate outfit. This choker is probably my best T.J.Maxx find ever. It was originally priced at $250, but thanks to T.J.Maxx's pricing and then a further clearance, I got it for $50. Still not a drop in the bucket, but it's a beautiful, beautiful choker that definitely makes a statement and dresses up any outfit.

As I say this, I realize it's ridiculous to talk about awesome T.J.Maxx finds and not mention my sunnies! These Chloe 2145 sunglasses have been framing my face for years now, but I would have  never been able to buy them if I didn't find them on clearance at T.J.Maxx for just $60.

Girl Crush: Joanna Hillman

Harper's Bazaar Senior Fashion Market Editor, Joanna Hillman, clearly deserves her title. I love how she has such as defined style even though she spends her whole day surrounded by clothes. I can appreciate a woman who knows what she likes, you know what I am saying?

025: Mish Mash Pattern Clash

Dress - Vintage, Jacket - Unknown, Clutch - Vintage Gucci, Watch - La Mer c/o, Heels - Ramon Tenza, Pins - Vintage, Sunnies - Ray-Ban

I've become so comfortable with print mixing that I think it's a little problematic. I hope you're dying over my vintage dress. An LA street sale find for $12, it's mullet, mermaid hem is extremely current and it's body-con cut is incredibly flattering, though not immediately noticeable.

024 Wear Your Greens

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Jeans - BDG, Shirt - Moth, Heels - Kenzie, Belt - Vintage, Necklace - Etsy, Bag - Vintage Coach, Watch - Vintage Timex, Sunnies - Ray-Ban
I thought this was a good outfit to post in honor of St. Paddy's know, how it was a few days ago! I try to always take trends with a grain spoonful of salt, but I have to admit I want to ride the pastel jean look. Last time colored denim came around, the colors were super bright and I just couldn't hang. The colored jeans of now are coming in muted shades of pink, yellow, green, and blue...and this, this I like. Here I decided to wear a full on pastel outfit. You can't really see it, but these adorable straw heels have the sweetest floral pattern on them, and I love this Moth top because it seems as if it has a faux collar to it. What I think really pulls the outfit together though is the belt. This vintage bow belt is my roommate's and I think the bold green color makes the outfit look a tad more serious rather than Easter egg.

On another note, after I finally purchased the House of Harlow 1960 cuff I had be obsessing over, I came to a realization. The thing is, all of us need a little bit of instant gratification every once in a while. But after buying this bracelet, I realized what may make us happier is buying something we've been thinking about for a while. Instant gratification purchases sometimes end up being items we love and keep for ever, but I think a lot more of those purchases end up in my closet unworn, tags and all - meaning, ultimately, instant gratification purchases end up being not that gratifying at all.

The mere purchase of the bracelet has made me really happy, and even though it hasn't shipped yet, I feel so giddy and can't wait to receive it! I feel like we live in a culture where we're programed to buy instantaneously. But I think that if we spent a little bit more time thinking about of purchases, in the end we'd be happier and have fuller pocketbooks.

Anyway, this is just my little theory based on an unscientific study with a sample size of one (me).

Of course, every once in a while I feel like people (or is it just me) get an urge to just spree style. When I feel like this, I always head to a thrift store or a buy-sell-trade store. You can get a lot more bang for your buck and in general spend a lot less, for a lot more. But I guess that doesn't matter if you make more money than me.

Music Monday: For What It's Worth

This song always manages to relax me. It's perfect Saturday morning music, but I hope you can appreciate it on a Monday too.

023 Picking Flowers in Menswear

Jacket - M. Julian, Vest - MM Couture, Shirt - Audrey, Pants - BCBG Maxazria, Clutch - Cooperative, Boots - Ugg, Sunnies - Chloe (similar here), Necklace - Etsy

I was possessed by some weird urge to pair a few menswear pieces with my favorite sheer top and fuchsia lipstick. I loved wearing this - everything was perfectly slouchy and easy and the lipstick pulled the look together.

022: Black, White, and Acne

Jeans - BDG, shirt - from Walmart actually!, Boots - Ugg, Bag - Ted Baker, Sunnies - House of Harlow 1960, Jacket - DIYed Gap, belt - Forever21, Bracelet - Vintage

When my best friend gave me this jacket before she moved to China, I devised a plan for it. It was a long, full-intact denim trench - really dated and stuffy looking. I was obsessed with Acne Resort 2012's closing look, which featured a long denim jacket that was so cut and shredded at the elbows and shoulders, it seemed as if it was going to snap off the model and fall to the floor, mid-walk. It didn't though and we all survived...but the thing is, I still wanted the jacket. A bit of snipping, cutting, sanding, and washing later and I had my faux Acne jacket! The studs were a bit I added that weren't present in the original, which you can see here. It's not something I get to wear as often as I like because there are so few occasions in my life that warrant a destroyed, studded jacket. But I still love it.

Also, I'm incredibly stoked today because Gilt Group finally had a House of Harlow 1960 sale and I was able to score the cuff bracelet I've been wanting. It actually feels really good to have waited as opposed to paying full price or getting a knock off. I've probably been wanting it for close to a year but I held off because I knew it would get to Gilt eventually. It almost feels like an accomplishment as a result. Anyway, I cannot wait to receive it!

Music Monday: Violet

Sometimes I really dislike Courtney Love, but sometimes I feel a lot like her and as a result I like her a lot.
My favorite lines from this song are the first two and then some:

And the sky was made of amethyst
And all the stars look just like little fish

When they get what they want, they never want it again
When they get what they want, they never want it again

Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to
Go on, take everything, take everything, I dare you to

Currently Coveting: Chic Flats

Images via Tumblr, Late Afternoon
I've developed a sizable heel collection over the last few months (though we know you really can never have too many heels), but right now I'm feeling some chic flats - ones that make me look nice without making my feet scream mercy.

021 White Jeans

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Jeans - BDG, white top - Mossimo, Orange top - Maxazria collection, Cardigan - J. Crew, heels - Calvin Klein, Bag - Amrita Singh, Sunnies - Chloe (similar here), necklace - Gorjana c/o, bracelet - yosemite gift shop, Watch - vintage timex

I'm not quite sure why, but I got catcalled by old men like three times the day I wore this outfit. Do old men like white jeans? Were they see thru and I just cannot see it? All I can say on the matter is that, well, I really like white jeans too. I'm looking for a nice high waist pair and a cheapy pair to try a little DIY project on. Perhaps these are the cheapy ones I will experiment on when I find a better pair.
